Over time, I have understood that there are no such things as coincidences in life. The beauty of synchronicity rules. If you observe your life closely, you can see the thread which weaves itself in and out of the tapestry that is your journey. Take one or two steps back, then link the isolated events and watch the greater picture reveal itself before your eyes. A couple of weeks ago, I attended a workshop on Ki. What at first glance seemed to be a fun activity with a friend, became a life altering tool for a personal and powerful shift, when juxtaposed with personal events over the last six days. I had the privilege of observing the truth behind the teaching of the power of words, both expressed and suppressed, as energy released and blocked. Each word, thought or spoken (which average 40,000 a day), determines moment by moment, whether we breathe in love or fear. On Mother's Day, I received a phone call from my young adult son, who had just found out that his father had been diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer. The same diagnosis that my mother had received more than 10 years ago. His fear was palpable in his words and long silences. With angry discourse about the unfairness of being an only child, he determined that he would probably now have to shoulder the responsibility of taking care of me and every aunt and uncle in the family who had no children. Having been a student of various forms of communication most of my life, I noticed that the cascading waterfall of fact, fiction and possible scripted scenarios was his attempt to both explain his state of energy and to transfer the said energy (state of mind) onto another person. Something we all do unconsciously when we feel fear.We simply look for a way to shake it off, like ducks flapping their wings after a fight with a rival. To release the stress. While ducks succeed in regaining their balance, we absorb the negativity of the words spoken and heard literally within our cells and carry them around with us, moment to moment. Ironically, the expression of fear (anger, sadness, anxiety, depression) is exactly what creates imbalance within our Ki or life energy. This imbalance then creates outward (arguments) and inward manifestations (dis-ease). During my routine mammogram this week, I observed how we are presented with dialogue and clinical environments which encourage this depleted state of Ki. For example, stand in front of a closed door in your home and mentally tell yourself that behind this door there is a most amazing, invigorating and empowering future. Observe how thrilled you are to open and walk though that door. Next, envision a future where you are told that you have to be afraid (nightly news reports, advertising campaigns using fear to sell products and not fitting into socially acceptable norms). Guess which doorway most of us voluntarily open and walk through every day? One could say that for some people, cancer is a symptom of this choice unconsciously made over a period of decades. The good news is that it is reversible. Simply consciously do a daily walk through that first door. Practice, with your words, thoughts and actions, the liberating embodiment of trust, self-love, laughter, kindness, compassion and all other expressions of the empowering energy of Ki.....Love. What do you have to lose, except the fear.
